At this point in the rap game, an exclusive verse from Jay Z is probably about the single most valuable asset to almost any artist/DJ, so this makes sense:
Even with having the means to do so, relocating for an unknown period of time to secure a Jay Z verse shows why DJ Khaled is where he is.
There’s stories all over hip hop detailing a young, hungry Khaled staying on friend’s couches, camping outside of studios, or spending an obscene amount of hours perfecting his craft.
The result of his hard work: a HUGE anthem in the streets and the natural promotion that comes from curating a record with a fresh, new Hov verse.
Young DJs, please do not go out and stalk your favorite artist for a verse. Take Khaled’s work ethic, but doing what he did will most likely not have the same results for you…not yet anyway.
