The WWE has tried a brand split before and for many reason the concept failed. With that being said, there’s many reasons for optimism about brand split 2.0.
Here are the rules via WWE.com:
1. Raw has the first overall pick.
It’s only right that the WWE’s flagship program get its pick of the top athlete. With Brock Lesnar’s immediate future up in the air it’ll be interesting to see what direction the WWE goes with for the 1st overall pick.
2. Since SmackDown Live is a two-hour show and Raw is three hours, for every two picks SmackDown Live receives, Raw will receive three picks.
This is where things get interesting. The way it read suggest Raw will receive a back-to-back pick after the two alternate on 5 picks. Ex: 1. Raw, 2. SD, 3. Raw, 4. SD, 5.Raw, 6. Raw.
This means that Raw will be able to accumulate 6 of the best 10 athletes on its brand, which becomes problematic when it’s time to fill SmackDown only PPVS. We will see how they keep the field level.
