According to TMZ, former Baylor football player Shawn Oakman has entered a plea of not guilty with the court.
Oakman was arrested and charged with sexual assault in April. Since then he has proclaimed his innocence, stating the sex was consensual. According to his lawyer, Michelle Tuegel, Oakman and his accuser had a consensual, intimate sexual relationship before the incident.
If this case goes to trial, it will be very interesting to see what comes out regarding the alleged incident. But more importantly what will be uncovered regarding the de facto culture and more broadly the policies regarding sexual assault claims at Baylor? The University has been under intense scrutiny over the past year and I have a feeling we are going to find out some ugly details.
