This is a travesty, and more importantly — how is this a felony?

Ex-NBA player Travis Outlaw was indicted by a grand jury on a felony marijuana charge — stemming from the Starkville, Miss native possessing an amount of marijuana greater than 250 grams but less than 1 kilogram on July 23, 2015.

Outlaw was arrested and booked at the Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Department for possession of a controlled substance. He was released that same day after posting a $10,000 bond.

Sheriff Steve Gladney said the case was presented by the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics. A MBN public relations officer for its West Point branch was unavailable Friday.

Outlaw, a 31-year-old Starkville High School graduate, went straight to the NBA after high school when he was drafted by the Portland Trail Blazers in 2003. He spent a majority of his career with the team, but also played for the Los Angeles Clippers, New Jersey Nets and Sacramento Kings.

Accoring to reports, Outlaw was in possession of 2.2 pounds of marijuana.
