The USA men’s Olympic basketball team will be staying on a luxury cruise ship in Rio, which has led to a lot of controversy. Of course, it is turning out to be a smart move by them with reports of how bad the conditions have been so far in the Olympic Village.
One person who probably isn’t too fond of staying on the ship is Jimmy Butler, who reportedly has a fear of water.
“Jimmy Butler doesn’t like water,” DeAndre Jordan told SI.com’s Chris Chavez. “So we were talking about, ‘Would you jump off the boat or would you get in?’ [He says,] ‘No and don’t play with me about it.’ He definitely does not like the water at all.”
Many of the players have rooms that gives them an exotic view of the ocean. For Butler, he has a room where there is no sight of the water.
“(Jimmy) don’t want to be near the water,” Draymond Green said. “He doesn’t want his room facing the water. Nothing. It’s incredible to me.”
Butler previously was asked about staying on the boat, in which he said, “just like a hotel, it just floats.”
It’s unknown about the background for the Chicago Bulls star’s fear of water, whether it’s from a traumatic experience or something else. Here’s hoping he can battle with that by pulling off a solid performance in this year’s games.
