Report: Kings Rudy Gay Open to Possible Trade to Heat

This offseason has been an interesting one in regards to Rudy Gay’s status as a member of the Sacramento Kings.

Gay has questioned the franchise’s future direction, as well as saying that the firing of head coach Mike Malone contributed to the team’s current downfall.

Gay reportedly asked for a trade from the Kings back in early July. It never happened, and it appears he patched things up with general manager Vlade Divac. However, things still aren’t perfect in his relationship with the team.

According to the Miami Herald, Gay is open to a possible trade to the Heat, though the likelihood of it happening is unlikely.

According to an associate, the Heat is among teams that very much appeal to Sacramento forward Rudy Gay, who has been available in trades. But Miami likely lacks the tradable assets to acquire him if it wanted to and his $14.2 million player option for 2017-18 is worrisome. Players signed this month in free agency cannot be traded until Dec. 15.

Gay can opt out of his contract after next season, so many teams could be turned off by that for trading him. However, he could fill in the hole for Miami that they created when losing out on Dwyane Wade in free agency.

Gay is coming off a season where he averaged 17.2 points and 6.5 rebounds per game on 46-percent shooting.
