In a time where rappers all across the country are looking to get on, sometimes it just takes hard work and a little bit of luck.
Kansas City’s very own, Rory Fresco, was the beneficiary of SoundCloud’s algorithm, which played Fresco’s “Lowkey” directly after Kanye West’s “Real Friends”.
Whenever Kanye drops anything new, masses of individuals are blood thirsty to hear what the controversial figure has to say, but naturally, thousands of listeners let their SoundCloud roll over to Fresco’s track.
Having said that, Lowkey instantly turned into a hit record and Rory Fresco’s popularity took off from there.
EPIC Records wasted no time in signing Fresco, but fans were still wondering if the KC artist was a one hit wonder or not. In an effort to escape the ghost of Lowkey, Fresco released his single entitled “RUNNAT”, which showcased his unique flow and authentic lyrics.
However, something was still missing.
During this period, many believed Rory Fresco had potential, but we wanted a full project of quality content.
Guess what?
Fresco has delivered with his “Mad World” mixtape.

This project shows Rory Fresco’s versatility as an artist. There’s a song for everybody on Mad World.
In the wake of his first official project, I was able to catch up with Rory Fresco.
“Lowkey” will always be linked to you for obvious reasons, but how does it feel to show the world that you’re more than just that song?
It feels great, but I still have so much to prove. It goes beyond music.
Before “Mad World”, you were a bit of a mystery to the masses, but on this project, you showed tons of vulnerability by letting people into your personal life. What led you show that side?
I’m just a normal kid. I want to show the world that and give ppl a product that they can relate to whether it be good or bad. I think the only way to get ppl to feel you is by letting them in on who you really are.
I’m sure you enjoyed the process of making every song on “Mad World”, but if you had to pick one, which track means the most to you and why?
Movie Screens would have to mean the most to me only because everything I say is so real and unfiltered. And the emotion behind it takes it to another level. That song is just super special to me and I can’t wait to perform it on tour.
For years now, Kansas City has been looking for the next guy to carry “the town” on its shoulders. Do you feel that pressure?
I honestly don’t feel that pressure because I feel its our job as a city to move forward and it’s not all on me. It’s other artists in Kansas City with great potential.
What can fans expect from Rory Fresco moving forward?
Just more content, I just plan to do stuff the city has never seen before. Stay tuned!
With the release of Mad World, it’s safe to say Rory Fresco has started the new wave of Kansas City music.
