ESPN’s Buster Olney has confirmed multiple reports that Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez has died in a boating accident this morning. Fernandez was 24 years old.
The Marlins has canceled today’s game against the Braves in which Fernandez was expected to pitch. Details of the accident are still being released, but what we do know is that Fernandez was on a 30-foot boat, which was found capsized off Miami Beach.

Fernandez was important part of the South Florida community considering he defected from Cuba to play baseball in the United States. His passion for the game was an inspiration to baseball fans in Miami.
