There are too many big men to accommodate in the Philadelphia 76ers’ frontcourt, so somebody has to go.
with Nerlens Noel, Jahlil Okafor, Dario Saric and Joel Embiid finally all together — one or two of the players have become expendable — with The Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski reporting that the Sixers have plans to move at least one of the two, league sources say.
The Sixers have a talented but young frontline that includes Joel Embiid, Jahlil Okafor and Nerlens Noel, and rookies Dario Saric and Ben Simmons.
Brand, the No. 1 overall pick in the 1999 NBA draft, is a two-time NBA All-Star. After announcing his retirement from basketball in August 2015, new Sixers CEO Jerry Colangelo signed Brand in January to take a leadership role in the Sixers’ locker room.
The Sixers have had periodic trade talks this summer involving Noel and Okafor and plan eventually to move one of them, league sources said. Philadelphia doesn’t believe the two players’ talents are complementary.
Okafor led the team in scoring last season with 17.5 points on 50.8 percent shooting, but was sidelined from Feb. 29 on with a small tear of the meniscus in his right knee.
Noel is turning into a defensive star after leading the team in steals (1.8) and finishing second in blocks (1.5).
