Another day, another explicitly racist response to the Colin Kaepernick national anthem protest. Krossroads Rock and Country Bar located in the Pleasant Valley Shopping Center in Virginia Beach has used the 49ers quarterback’s jersey as a floor mat.
According to News 3 in Virginia Beach, James Perry a local resident walked into the restaurant last week and noticed the jersey on the floor. In an interview he said:
What went through my mind was like ‘Wow, is this real or is it a joke?’ How would you feel if someone taped a police officer’s uniform down?
Local media spoke with the general manager of the bar and he said taping the jersey down was about sportsmanship and Kaepernick’s disrespect of the flag – not race.
So, your response to “disrespect” and “sportsmanship” is to sow more disrespect? A floor mat or a rug mat at the entrance to any home or establishment is there for one thing. Too wipe the disgusting dirt, filth, etc. commonly found at the bottoms of peoples shoes. A player’s jersey is a piece of cloth that people wear proudly to show their team affiliation and affinity for said player. Isn’t it clear what using it as a doormat, where you literally can wipe the sh*t off your shoes, means?
James Perry, the local resident who brought this to the attention of local media via his Facebook account is calling for a boycott of the restaurant. Kudos to you James. All local residents that recognize the gross inequalities in this country and who believe in equality for all should join him.
