Playing in the NFL is a dream many young men have but only a few will have the dream become a reality, Chargers safety Dexter McCoil has one the most inspiring stories in the NFL. McCoil who is from Louisiana attended the University of Tulsa was named the Defensive MVP in 2011 but that wasn’t enough to be drafted in 2013 by the NFL. He was invited to the Raiders mini camp but didn’t make the roster from there he went to arena football to the CFL. The CFL is where McCoil began to flourish on the field as an inside linebacker while playing for the Edmonton Eskimos. He was one of the key players on the team that helped the team win the 2015 Grey Cup , the Grey Cup is the Canadian Leagues Super Bowl. McCoil’s hard work caught the attention of the San Diego Chargers they invited him to the off-season work out.During that time the team decided he would be a perfect fit as a safety, fans were a little thrown off by the former inside linebacker statue being 6’4 and 220 pounds now being a safety.
McCoil re-insured those that he is capable of being a safety and that he has held that position before. Two days before his birthday he was officially sign to 53 man roster at a team press conference he stated that is the best birthday present . For anyone that has a goal they want to obtain don’t give up because the process may not being going at the pace you would like and don’t cave in because others may doubt your capability. “Desire is the key to motivation, but it’s determination and commitment to an unrelenting pursuit of your goal – a commitment to excellence – that will enable you to attain the success you seek.”- Mario Andretti
