TMZ has learned that rapper/mogul Jay-Z has made a bid for Prince’s unreleased music catalog. According to the story, Jay made an offer of $40 million to secure the exclusive ownership of the late musician’s catalog discovered at Paisley Park. Jay reportedly flew Prince’s sister Tyka and her husband Maurice Phillips to NYC several weeks ago for a meeting.
If Jay is able to pull this deal off it would be a nice get for Tidal, his streaming service. There might be some difficulty because Tyka needs to get sign off from all the brothers and sisters, in addition to the trust that is managing the estate. That’s a lot of people and when money is involved there will always be disagreements and problems.
The story also confirms that Hov is in the running to secure exclusive streaming rights to the entire Prince catalog, but that will cost substantially more.
