If you’re wondering why George-St. Pierre was pulled from UFC 206 in Toronto, there is now a clear answer why.
According to St. Pierre on the MMA Hour, he is no longer with UFC and a free agent.
“You heard it right,” St-Pierre said “I’m a free agent.”
St. Pierre was apparently still under a contract from 2011 and was in negotiations for a new deal, but talks stopped when UFC was sold to WME-IMG in July. When both sides couldn’t come to an agreement, St. Pierre’s lawyer terminated the old contract since the promotion didn’t give him an opponent for UFC 206.
The conflict is similar to Ramage Jackson and Bellator when Jackson signed a new deal with UFC in 2014 which led to an injunction against Jackson by Bellator, where they won the battle. Rampage and Bellator would later agree to a new deal.
