George Zimmerman’s Shooter Sentenced to Lengthy Jail Sentence

apperson-zimmerman-shooterMatthew Apperson, the man who made headlines when he shot at Travon Martin’s killer George Zimmerman, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.

According to the Orlando Sentinel Seminole County Judge Debra S. Nelson sentenced Apperson to serve the state minimum after being found guilty of attempted second-degree murder, armed aggravated assault and shooting into a vehicle. Apperson was found guilty last month.

Tension originated between Apperson and Zimmerman on September 9, 2014 when the two engaged in a screaming match from separate vehicles in an apparent road rage incident. At that time Apperson called authorities but did not file charges. On May 11, 2015, the day of the shooting, Apperson testified that Zimmerman pointed a gun at him first and he was acting in self-defense.

Apperson will begin his sentence immediately.
