Odell Beckham Jr. could be the placekicker for the Giants this Sunday when they play the Rams in London. The Giants have a void at kicker now that the disgusting details of wife beater Josh Brown have gotten out. He will not be accompanying the team to London and his spot needs to be filled.
According to Albert Breer of MMQB, Giants head coach Ben McAdoo believes Beckham could serve as an emergency kicker if needed. If you’ve ever seen OBJ’s pre-game routine he often kicks and makes 30-35 yard field goals routinely.
Now, the Giants will work feverishly to sign someone in time for Monday so OBJ would be a last resort. But, think about that for a moment. This is how supremely talented this young man is. The team is willing to take it’s star offensive weapon and easily the best player on the team and have him perform additional duties. It’s funny that his “antics” are seen as a problem and a distraction for the team but his overwhelming talent far outweighs the “antics” and distractions in this case. The circumstances that might demand OBJ serve as an emergency kicker are also interesting. We’ve spent weeks admonishing and discussing “antics” and distractions. Meanwhile the team has been silent on all things Josh Brown related. We’ll see what’s a distraction going forward.
