It’s going to be like this all season for Kevin Durant and the Warriors. In a media scrum during today’s shoot around, KD was asked about this era’s players and their competitive spirit. No doubt a reference to “old school” NBA players questioning his competitiveness because he joined the Warriors as a free agent this summer.
KD handled the question well, politely disagreed and said that the players of this era are as competitive as any other. The Warriors and KD in particular will be targets for all sorts of critics this season. It’s par for the course. But, when will the “old heads” stop criticizing?
We get it, back in the day superstar A would have never teamed up with superstar B. He would just try and beat him. The NBA stars of yesterday that fought hard but never won championships are wearing that struggle like a badge of honor. We all have a certain level of respect and admiration for those guys. But you can’t tell me in their private moments, if given truth serum, they wouldn’t trade all that struggle for just one championship.
