There were some whispers about Dwyane Wade possibly joining forces with LeBron for a second time in Cleveland this offseason, however; nothing ever came of it.
Now we know why.
The Cavs were already pretty cash-strapped going into the 2017 season, having still not come to terms with J.R. Smith. When asked about why Wade didn’t join him in Cleveland, LeBron kept it short and sweet:
“We couldn’t afford him,” James said. “It’s that simple.”
Cavs coach Tyron Lue also chimed in on the Wade rumors:
“Who wouldn’t be interested in a Hall of Famer?” Cavs coach Tyronn Lue echoed, referring to Wade’s likely spot in the Hall. “That don’t even make sense. Yeah, we wanted him.”
Wade, of course instead chose to sign a 2-year $47 million deal with his hometown Chicago Bulls.
