DeMarcus Cousins, one of the best “big men” in the league, will be a free agent in the summer of 2018. According to ESPN’s Tim MacMahon, the Dallas Mavericks will go hard after Boogie.
This makes sense, Dallas is one of the NBA’s best run franchises and will be looking to move the organization forward as it comes to the end of the Dirk Nowitzki era. Boogie will be in his prime with Harrison Barnes, some young pieces and salary cap space. If the Mavs can land Boogie they might be able to attract another top end free agent and make a serious push to the upper echelon of the Western Conference.
Of course the Mavs won’t be the only team in pursuit of Boogie and they won’t be able to offer as much as his present team, Sacramento can. However, Boogie has never made the playoffs and with the dysfunction that is the Kings, he might be looking for a new start. Keep an eye on this. Mark Cuban and the Mavs have been good since they won their title in 2011 but they haven’t been true contenders. This could be their chance.
