Tyler Perry On Difficulty Getting His Movies Into White Neighborhood Theaters

With the outstanding numbers his films do at the box office, one might be surprised that director Tyler Perry has difficulty getting his films into theaters. Well, white neighborhood theaters that is.

Despite his latest film, “Boo! A Madea Halloween” coming in at number one at the box office over the weekend, Perry feels that the film would have done even better if received in white theaters.

I think the numbers could have been bigger had people who are in the white suburbs had the option to go to their own theaters to see it. It’s something I’ve been dealing with for many, many years.

It sounds like Perry is lamenting on the fact that white people are not willing to venture outside of their neighborhoods to support his films. With the success he has achieved without that demographic, do you think it is worth his energy to comment on the subject?
