Vlade Divac Speaks On If He’s Trading Rudy Gay Or Not

The Sacramento Kings had reportedly made Rudy Gay and Ben Mclemore available for trade this summer. Rudy Gay has told the Kings front office that he plans to opt out and leave next summer, but that doesn’t seem to matter to Vlade Divac as he told Sirus XM Radio that he plans to keep Gay.

Just joking around the other day, I apologized for him to – I said, “We like you so much, that’s why we decided to keep you here.” Rudy is a tremendous talent. He’s somebody that is beautiful to watch, the way he plays. We think Rudy is a big, big part of this team to be successful. So, we decide to go with him. And if he decides to stay next year, that’s great. If he decides to leave, that’s fine. But we want to make sure we compete this year.

Ben McLemore, 23, hasn’t turned out to be the player he was projected to be coming out of Kansas. But Divac seems to still have faith in the young guard:

It’s part of business. You’re going to receive a lot of calls. You’re going to make a lot of calls. We are very happy with Ben, the way he’s progressing this summer. He’s a very young player that we – like I said – we like a lot. So, we’re going to keep him.

The Kings still have a long way to go if they want to make the playoffs in the tough western conference. They lost Rajon Rondo who led the league in assists last year with a pretty bad team. And with Darren Collison suspended for the beginning of the season, it seems like Kings fans are getting ready for another long losing season.
