It seems like Baylor just can’t catch a break at the moment. Associate Athletic Director Heath Nielsen has been released on bond following an arrest which he grabbed a reporter by the throat and pushed them away from a player.
According to KWTX James McBride, the victim in the incident received permission from a player to take a picture. According to the affidavit that was obtained Nielsen walked up to McBride grabbed him by the throat with his right hand squeezed and pushed him away from the football player. Nielsen told the reporter that he was “abusing his privileges.”
McBride told KWTX that he works well with other members of the staff at Baylor, but has had a history of issues with Nielsen because of some of his articles and videos he has posted in the past. After the incident McBride says that Nielsen told him, “You’ll never f*cking work in this business again. You’re abusing your privileges on the field.”
The stadium cameras have the incident recorded according to a spokesperson for the paper. McBride isn’t sure what kind of action he wants to take yet but definitely believes he should lose his job.
Nielsen was charged with assault with bodily injury which is a class A misdemeanor. Baylor has not commented on the incident at the moment.
