Roc Nation has been slammed with a Lawsuit claiming copyright infringement. Prince’s estate has sued the company for “exploiting many copyrighted Prince works”. The music was streamed to the popular music app Tidal owned by Roc Nation CEO, Jay Z. NPG Records Inc. and NPG Music Publishing (Who Represent Prince) gave a music allowance of 90 days for the app.
This included his recent studio album, ‘HitNRun: Phase 1′ to be available for Tidal subscribers. Prince’s estate wants to pull the music from the streaming app and remain exclusivity of his works. Reports show that the Tidal team did not comply easily.
According to one report from the ‘Star Tribune’, Roc Nation claims it has a number of “written and oral” agreements allowing it to exclusively stream many albums in Prince’s catalog. The company failed to produce any of this paperwork when asked to do so.
Earlier this year, Tidal had sought out to purchase the legend’s music catalog for $40 Million. However, they were denied.
