10 people were shot in New Orleans French Quarter in the early hours of Sunday morning. It was around 1:30 a.m. when shots rang out on crowded Bourbon Street. Thirty officers were already in place due to the Bayou Classic which had taken place hours earlier.
Superintendent Michael Harrison said that it is not clear what triggered the incident. The victims ranged in age from 20 to 37. Two women and 8 men were shot; one person died at the hospital.
Two arrests have already been made for the illegal carrying of a firearm. One of the arrests was a shooting victim. The arrests add to eight other arrests for the same offense within 24 hours.
