Malik Zaire suffered a season-ending ankle injury in 2015 and was never able to wrestle the starting QB job back from talented Jr, Deshone Kizer.
Now, he will have an opportunity to squeeze one more season out of his college football experience; in a new uniform, after his release from the Fighting Irish.
Pete Sampson of the website SCOUT.com elaborates:
According to a source, the senior quarterback will meet with head coach Brian Kelly on Wednesday morning, at which point Zaire should get his formal release from the University to pursue a graduate transfer. Zaire is on track to graduate in December with one season of eligibility remaining.
Zaire leaves the Irish with 816 yards passing, 6 TDs and no interceptions. He also racked up 324 yards on the ground with a pair of rushing TDs.
Also according to Sampson, the list of schools interested in his services include Florida, Pittsburgh, Michigan State and Wisconsin.
