Ray Allen has put all the rumors to rest in a very lengthy and touching letter via The Player’s Tribune. In it, he looks back on what could’ve been but all you can see is a man who is grateful with his life.
Ray Allen has provided our generation with so many memories that thinking back on how it’s come to an end, it’s just sad. All our favorite ballers are retiring and making way for the new school era. Allen wrote a letter to his younger self and reflected on so much that’s gone in his life. But it all started with basketball.
What I want you to do is this: Go to the basketball court. Stay at the basketball court. You can build your entire existence there.
And that’s precisely what he did. I absolutely love how The Player’s Tribune has been an outlet for athletes to truly be themselves.
Every day for the rest of your life, you’ll have to choose.
Do you want to fit in, or do you want to embark on the lonely pursuit of greatness?
I write this to you today as a 41-year-old man who is retiring from the game. I write to you as a man who is completely at peace with himself.
The hell you experience when you get off that bus will be temporary. Basketball will take you far away from that school yard. You will become far more than just a basketball player. You’ll get to act in movies. You’ll travel the world. You will become a husband, and the father of five amazing children.
We leave you with this video that’s sure to take you down memory lane and you might just say, “Wow, I forgot about that play.”
