On paper UFC 205 is the greatest fight card in UFC history and thanks to Conor McGregor, and on a lesser scale Eddie Alvarez, it’ll likely shatter every record in the company’s history.
The war of words between the two champions will pale in comparison to the action inside of the octagon on Saturday night. McGregor, a knockout artist and slick talker. He’s shown the willingness to fight in any weight class and against any opponent. That bravado has made him the biggest UFC star to date and he’s shown no signs of slowing down.
Standing in his way is lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez and a shot at history by becoming a simultaneous two-division champion.
Alvarez has built his reputation on being one of the toughest fighters in MMA, regardless of promotion. He’s dealt with setbacks during fights, personal adversity and losses but it has all led to this moment. A moment where he is 1/2 of the largest competition in the sport’s history and the grandest fight (statistically) in Madison Square Garden’s existence.
Fight fans should enjoy this week’s build up to the main event because all signs point towards the fight not lasting very long.

Let’s break down the numbers.
Conor McGregor has only gone past the 2nd round in 2 of his 23 fight, one being his latest victory against Nate Diaz. Of his 20 victories, 13 of those have come in the 1st round.
Eddie Alvarez is known for going the distance in the UFC but he hasn’t always been ‘Mr. Decision.’ In fact, 13 of Alvarez’s last 20 fights have ended before the 3rd round.
With 91% of McGregor’s fights finishing before the 3rd round, and 65% of Alvarez’s doing the same, we can expect a short and exciting fight at UFC 205.
