Beverly Whaling is no longer the mayor of West Virginia.
After a Facebook post containing racist comments about Michelle Obama went viral, Beverly Whaling has resigned effective immediately.
“It will be refreshing to have a classy, beautiful, dignified First Lady in the White House. I’m tired of seeing an ape in heels,” according to a screengrab obtained by CNN affiliate WSAZ.
Pamela Taylor was director of the Clay County Development Corporation and posted the Facebook status. Whaling added to the Facebook post with the following:
“Just made my day Pam,” the screengrab shows.
It’s been confirmed that Whaling has resigned as mayor, but it’s unclear if Taylor was terminated or resigned and Clay County Commissioner Greg Fitzwater said she no longer works for the county.
