Many WWE fans are complaining about this year’s booking but an objective look at 2016 would show that it’s the best year the company has had since the ‘Summer of Punk.’ Four of the top 5 champions this year were ex-indie wrestlers (Owens, Rollins, Styles & Ambrose) with the only exception being Roman Reigns brief run as champion thru WrestleMania.
The influx of NXT talent and free agents boosted matches quality and our ’10 Best WWE Matches of 2016′ reflects just that.
10. Charlotte vs Sasha Banks Hell in a Cell Match (HiaC) (WWE Women’s Title)
These two women put together some of the best women’s matches in WWE history this past year but their historic Hell in a Cell match takes the first spot on our list. It would’ve been much higher if the ending wasn’t botched and rushed but even that isn’t enough to take away from them competing in a match that many thought was exclusively for men.
