A Breakdown of Steve Smith Hall of Fame Chances In Comparison to Modern Day & Recently Retired WRs

bruce

Isaac Bruce is best known for the greatest show on turf, but he was putting up 1700 yard seasons with Tony Banks as his QB.

His overall numbers 1,024 Catches 15,208 Yards 91 TDs are almost identical to Smith’s and he has a Super Bowl ring.

It would be hard pressed to say that Smith is more deserving than Bruce and Bruce hasn’t made it to the final 15 yet of the HOF voting yet.

torry-holt

One could say that Torry Holt who was Bruce’s partner in crime was a better receiver than both Smith and Bruce, just with a shorter career.

Holt only played 11 years in the NFL, but 8 of those years he had over 1100 yards including two 1600 yard seasons.

His total stats for his 11 year career are impressive 920 catches 13,382 yards 74 TDs. Like Bruce, Holt hasn’t come even close for induction into the HOF, but you can argue he was better than Smith at everything but longevity.
