The Giants, 10-7 win over Dallas, was hard fought. It was a tale of two defenses keeping their team in the game despite their sluggish offenses, but it looks like this game isn’t fully over yet. According to ESPN, the NFL is investigating the Giants use of walkie talkies during the fourth quarter.
Giants Head Coach, Ben McAdoo, was seen using a two walkie talkie during the fourth quarter to relay plays to QB Eli Manning during a time they were having problems with their headset. But per NFL rules, coaches are not allowed to hold a walkie talkie during a game. Without the rule in place, the “cutoff switch operator” can’t stop communications.
Luckily, no one believes this would’ve changed the outcome of the game, but it doesn’t mean eyebrows weren’t raised. Stephen Jones shared his sentiments,
“We don’t comment on things like that,” he said, referring to whether they called the NFL, “but it’s obvious to everybody what happened, and my understanding is it’s being looked into and handled.”
One thing the NFL can rule out is that the players had any involvement; Manning couldn’t even tell how he was communicating once the headsets began to work again.
“I don’t know when he was on the walkie-talkie or not,” Manning said. “I just knew it was back in my ear, and we were going.”
In a game as headed as that, I can’t blame McAdoo, win by any means necessary.
