I know I’m not the first and won’t be the last to say this but, George Karl was completely out of line for some of the things he published in his new book. I was in total shocked after reading just a few of the things he had to say about Carmelo Anthony, JR Smith and Kenyon Martin. I’ve always viewed good coaches as guy who are able to take young players under their wings to help mold them into a better person and a better basketball player despite any prior circumstances. Former NBA coach George Karl must be cut from a different cloth because he did everything except this.
According to Deadspin.com, Karl first said he struggled as a coach due to the fact his players didn’t have fathers, calling out Carmelo Anthony and Kenyon Martin. When it comes to JR Smith, Karl blamed his dad for his issues.
“Smith’s father, Earl Sr., urged his son to shoot the ball and to keep shooting it from the very moment I put him in the game.”
Let’s remember JR Smith was a young yet very talented player while in Denver with Karl, he simply needed coaching. JR was one of the few that decided to respond to Karl’s comments.
