Area 21 with Kevin Garnett has been quite the hit on TNT’s NBA coverage. You often find KG with another NBA player or coach discussing the state of the league in an entertaining manner. Rasheed Wallace is a frequent guest and the two are always cutting it up. However, a particular segment during Thursday night’s broadcast was anything but funny. Sheed was talking to KG about the water crisis in Flint, Michigan; something a lot of people are not discussing.
Sheed has been diligent in his efforts to bring awareness to this problem and actually helping on the ground by bringing bottled water to the city’s residents. Sheed told KG there is a crisis in Flint and it looks like a third world country. So often we hear from fans that athletes should just #sticktosports. But with their access and influence I am all for any athlete bringing awareness and sparking change in any situation that adversely impacts a large swath of people.
