Rondo Speaks On Being Benched For Second Half

For the past few seasons, former all-star Rajon Rondo hasn’t been able to find a stable home. It all started when he was traded to the Dallas Mavericks during the 2014-2015 season.

Rondo and head coach Rick Carlisle weren’t able to get on the same page and things just didn’t work out in Sacramento. Now, things are going downhill in Chicago with Fred Hoiberg.

During the second half against the Indiana Pacers today, Hoiberg benched Rondo for the entire half.

“I thought Michael gave us really good energy in that first half and I went with him to start,” Hoiberg said. “Jerian, I thought played really solid last time against these guys so I went with Jerian with the backup minutes. Just the decision that we made.”

Rondo took the high road.

“I’m a veteran,’’ Rondo said of the decision. “It’s not going to determine that I’m not going to work hard. I’m going to stay in the gym every day. Lead these guys when I can, talk to my teammates. Be a professional.’’

Rondo continued.

“It’s not life and death. Life is too short to be unhappy, and it’s part of it. If I start [Saturday], great. If I don’t, as long as we get the win that’s all that matters.’’

Hoiberg wouldn’t commit when asked who will get the start at point guard Saturday against Milwaukee.
