Ronda Rousey’s comeback at UFC 207 didn’t last very long. She was TKO’d by bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes in 48 seconds. Since the loss, many experts are offering their opinions as to why Rousey lost so badly. In a recent article by The Score, FOX Sports analyst and retired fighter Kenny Florian shared his thoughts:
My understanding is that perhaps Rousey didn’t really spar leading up to this fight. I get that they’re trying to preserve her from not getting hurt. But you’ve got to have some rounds. You’ve got to ready for the worst-case scenario, which is Amanda Nunes striking with you. She wasn’t able to move her head, do anything defensively to avoid the striking skills of Amanda Nunes, and really paid for it.
Pretty succinct analysis from Florian. I am no MMA expert but it did not appear as though Rousey had a game plan for when she got hit. Rousey kept coming straight line at Nunes and got hit repeatedly. I imagine sparring ahead of the bout would have helped.
