Steve McNair’s son Tyler McNair helped his high school team to two straight state championships and was prepared to go for a third title, but he quit basketball in his senior year to pursue dance full-time.
When asked if his late father would be ok with his choice, Tyler responded with the following:
‘I think my dad is OK with my dancing and he would still be proud of me,’
It looks like Tyler was not able to juggle both activities and was hesitant to leave his high school team. He told the Tennessean the following:
“For almost a year, we tried to work on a schedule where I could do both and it never seemed to work out,” McNair said. “Basketball is a big commitment, and dance is such a big commitment.
“Eventually I just decided to just stick with dance because it was something that I thought about all the time,” he said. “Like, I was always trying to work things around dance. And for me, I made it my decision to make it to the next level of dance.”
Dance also helped Tyler McNair cope with his father’s death when he was just ten years old, as dance became a way to escape and relieve stress. Good luck to the young man.
