Shackleford may be was known more for his time at NC State than the NBA struggled after his career was over.
Police are looking into his cause of death.
Former NBA player Charles Shackleford, who famously referred to himself as “amphibious” instead of ambidextrous while at North Carolina State, was found dead in his Kinston, N.C. home on Friday, police said. He was 50 years old.
Kinston police are investigating, as a cause of death has not been determined.
“Shack” was selected by the Nets in the second round of the 1988 draft and spent six seasons in the NBA — also playing for the 76ers, Timberwolves and Hornets — as well as European leagues.
After retiring in 2000, Shackleford found himself in trouble with the law numerous times.
Thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family.
