After what will be his longest absence from the ring since becoming professional, WBC/IBF/WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin heads to the ring Mar. 18 against WBA regular champion Daniel Jacobs of Brooklyn. With Jacobs possessing a version of the WBA title like Golovkin, pundits and Golovkin’s team alike, consider him among GGG’s toughest challengers to date.
Taking place at the ‘Mecca of Boxing’ Madison Square Garden, New York welcomes Golovkin back to his east coast adoptive home and Jacobs back to New York after spending time in Oakland, CA to prepare for the fight. Expected to be among the year’s best match-ups, the battle between two of the middleweight division’s best could result in one of 2017’s fights of the year.
At Wednesday’s press conference in Los Angeles GGG chatted with BSO about Jacobs, who he calls his favorite fight, called the bout ‘historical’, and shares what he loves about this fight.
