Adele Explains Why George Michael Tribute Didn’t Include Beyonce & Rihanna

In the aftermath of the Grammys, details are emerging that Adele’s tribute to George Michael was originally envisioned to be an all-star power trio with the 5-time winner, joined by Beyonce and Rihanna.

According to Vulture.com, show producer Ken Ehrlich wanted a medley of songs but ultimately the late singer’s family preferred the “Hello” singer to perform as a soloist.

According to Grammy producer Ken Ehrlich, what was meant to be a medley of songs (potentially “Fastlove,” “Freedom,” and “One More Try”) turned into just the one by Adele when her “passion” and “vision” to sing alone became clear. That, and Adele says George Michael’s family disapproved of a tribute unless it was just her — the only believable explanation why Adele would ever nix a collaboration with the “artist of her life,” Beyoncé.

In the end, Adele had two goes at the tribute and the audience cheered her on.
RIP George Michael.
