BSO was on the black carpet Friday night to chat with the stars of the highly anticipated horror/thriller Get Out.
The film, written and directed by Jordan Peele, chronicles the interracial relationship of Chris (Daniel Kaluuya) and Rose (Allison Williams) and what happens during a weekend visit to Rose’s parents in the country. Feeling an immediate sense of unexplainable dread, Chris soon finds out that childhood stereotypes he’s been told about dating a white woman are very real, and very dangerous but not in the way he expected.
Peele, who makes his directorial debut, wrote the script eight years ago never believed Get Out would ever see the light of day. Speaking to BSO, and the crowd gathered for the premier, he explains why this film is important.
“I think that race is a human demon. I think of it as a monster and America is a great underdog story. But, far too often it doesn’t resemble Martin Luther King’s dream, it resembles a nightmare.
That’s what i wanted to do, I wanted to take the racial monster and make it a nightmare.”
