TMZ is reporting that J.R. Smith’s daughter, Dakota had her breathing tubes removed and is breathing on her own. Dakota was born almost 5 months early and weighed only 1 pound. Smith’s wife Jewel was overjoyed with the news, saying:
I was beyond excited to hold our 2 lb 13 oz miracle in the palm of my hands for the very first time. What some mothers get to experience within the first 2 minutes of giving birth I had to wait 78 days but, what I will say is it was worth the wait because those very feelings, emotions and joy that took over my body trumps it all.
This is tremendous news for the Smith family. It looks like Dakota will cross the 3lb mark soon which is a significant milestone for the preemie.
No matter your sports fandom, this is one of those moments where all humans who care about other humans should be happy for the Smith’s. We hope little Dakota keeps fighting and the Smith’s get to finally take their baby girl home.
