Jim Harbaugh spoke to Pro Football Talk Live and had good things to say about his former quarterback, Colin Kaepernick. Kap took the 49ers to the Super Bowl in 2012 and back to the NFC title game in 2013. He clearly has ability and Harbaugh said he tells teams that call about Kap the same:
I’ll tell you the same thing I tell them: I think he’s an outstanding player and I think he’s a great competitor who has proven it in games and has the ability to be not only an NFL starter but a great NFL player.
Let’s focus on the idea that Kap is proven. We mentioned the Super Bowl berth in ’12 and the NFC title game in ’13. This past season Kap threw for 2,241 yards, 16 touchdowns and four interceptions on a terrible team. Check the 49ers roster this past year. Check the numbers from that squad, not good at all. Yet, Kap who is proven can’t seem to get a call from teams.
You know who is getting calls and being signed? Unproven players like Josh McCown and Mike Glennon. Interesting how players who have shown their inability to play well get multiple opportunities and a quarterback that is proven doesn’t get one. Makes you wonder, why that is?
If you read this website and follow me or our EIC Robert Littal you know the reason why Kap isn’t being given an opportunity. It has nothing to do with his “inability to play well” and everything to do with Kap’s politics, and those politics being in direct conflict with what the owners of NFL teams think.
Think about that for a moment. Equality, justice, and ending police brutality against minorities are things that come into conflict with the beliefs of NFL owners…
