As media awaited the arrival of Broncos GM John Elway and Cowboys Head Coach Jason Garrett at the 2017 NFL Scouting Combine, they pondered on just how much either man would divulge with regards to their teams’ QB situations.
As free agency looms next week, Romo’s future in Dallas is cloudy and although the Broncos have two young quarterbacks, Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch, experience at the position is always a plus. John Elway spoke on the team’s QB position and reiterated that he is happy with the options he has. Free agency could always change that though. While Elway’s remarks would lead most to believe that there is little interest in Tony Romo when they think about the impact that acquiring a veteran QB will have “2, 3, or 4 years down the line”, we must remember that he displayed the same nonchalance regarding Peyton Manning. We all know how that turned out.
A few feet away, Garrett arrived to Podium #3 undoubtedly equipped for the Romo questions he knew he would be peppered with. Garrett insisted that the organization is committed to doing what is best for the Cowboys while noting that he feels confident that Romo can still perform at a high level.
