Loyalty is hard to find these days. One would think that the one thing to remain constant is the location of your sports teams, sadly, as of late, that theory is being challenged.
What do you do when your home team decides to move to another state? Do you stay loyal or do you find a team thats closer to home? Becoming a fan of a team, doesn’t have much to do with location than it does with comfort. You’re more than just a fan of the team, you become a fan of tradition, and for Oakland Raider fans, the Bay Area is going to be missing a big chunk of it.
Luckily, the Raiders have a QB in Derek Carr that wants to keep the fans invested and hopeful that they’ll stay around. On Monday, Carr expressed his thoughts to ESPN’s Paul Gutierrez, on whether the fans will remain loyal the next few years despite the announcement on their move to Vegas.
“We’re not going to split up like you’ve seen other cities do,” Carr said Monday, and immediately images of Cleveland and Houston in the mid-1990s, when the Browns and Oilers departed for Baltimore and Tennessee, respectively, come to mind.
“We’re not going to do things like that. For the ones that do, I don’t really believe that they’re true Raider fans. I feel their hurt. I’m with you. I hurt, too. But at the same time, we’re all in this together and we’re just going to do it together.”
“Out of like 1,000 people, you’re going to get one or two that have something to say and that’s with everything,” he said.
“Hopefully y’all don’t focus on that kind of stuff because there’s the 99 percent that are loyal, faithful fans that are going to ride with us wherever we’re at.”
