State police charged 46 year old,Lloyd Kevin Smith with endangering the welfare of a child.
Indian River Central School varsity baseball coach has been arrested for allegedly putting a 16 year old student in a choke-hold,which caused the boy to lose consciousness.
Authorities state that the demonstration led to the unconsciousness of one of the players. A choke-hold type of maneuver caused the 16-year old to become unconscious.
Officials note that it all started when some of the players were playing around with mixed martial arts moves. Smith entered the locker room, and told the players he could show them the correct way to do the move. Lloyd’s demo sent the young boy falling to the ground causing him to strike his head on a glass and metal door.
The student later regained consciousness with a sore neck,burled vision,and symptoms of nausea the teenager’s parents took him to Samaritan Medical Center. There he was diagnosed as having a concussion,authorities said. The Philadelphia Town Court issued Smith a ticket to appear in court Tuesday evening. No further information on Llyod’s employment has been released as of yet. Although Superintendent Jim Kettrick declined to say if Smith is still coaching the team.
He did state that “When we became aware of the incident, it was investigated fully and appropriate action has been taken.
