Your favorite NBA team logo may stand for something else entirely.
Local tattoo artist in the San Antonio area are warning fans who want the notable logo to seek something a little less gang affiliated.
San Antonio Spurs fans who want to show team spirit with a little ink may have to think again.
According to law enforcement officials, the San Antonio Spurs logo has become popular with members of Tango Orejon, the San Antonio chapter of Tango Blast, a notorious Texas prison gang composed of Hispanic men from major Texas cities.
Since news has spread in San Antonio that gangs use the Spurs logo requests for the tattoos have decreased. The logo is usual featured next to the Playboy Bunny as a sign of gang affiliation.
In an interview with mySA.com, Laura Rosario, manager at Ring of Fire downtown said
“We won’t put it on someone’s neck or face or further down their arm where someone could see it and assume they’re associated with that gang,” she said. “We try to make sure that they know.” she also stated that “We don’t get very many requests,” adding the demand for them is higher when the team makes it to the championship.
So for all those diehard Spurs fans, getting the logo permanently on your body may not make it on the bucket list.
