Roy Williams Says Wallace Loh Is a “Double Idiot” For NCAA Death Penalty Remarks

Wallace Loh needs to mind his business. At least that’s what UNC head coach Roy Williams thinks.

Fresh off his third national championship with the Tar Heels, Williams expressed his displeasure with the University of Maryland president during a radio interview with SiriusXM College Sports Nation calling him a “double idiot”.

We have a President that says we should get the death penalty. A president of another University. I mean, to me that’s just so silly. A guy told me one time, ‘You can get a little knowledge and it turns you into an idiot, but no knowledge you’re a double idiot.’ That’s about the way I look at that thing.

Williams added that a lot of people have had a lot to say since the Heels cut down the nets in Arizona on April 3.

Speaking at a Q&A session during the University senate meeting last Thursday, Loh made the following statement regarding UNC and the NCAA’s ongoing investigation into academic violations.

For the things that happened in North Carolina, it’s abysmal. I would think that this would lead to the implementation of the death penalty by the NCAA. But I’m not in charge of that.

Williams is adamant that there has been no wrongdoing in his department. The night before the national championship game, he held his stance saying that he can “hang his hat” on the fact that no allegations had been made against men’s basketball.

The revised Notice of Allegations UNC received from the NCAA in December adds the school’s two revenue sports: football and men’s basketball. If it is determined that athletes on those teams from 2002-2011 received extra benefits, UNC could potentially have to vacate the two national titles won by men’s basketball in 2005 and 2009.
