On May 5, Demarcus Cousins responded to a lawsuit stemming from a NYC nightclub fight he and Matt Barnes were involved in back in December.
Jasmine Besiso and Myrone Powell filed lawsuits against Cousins and Barnes accusing them of attacking them inside the club.
Besiso has claimed that she and Powell were in the VIP area of the club when Barnes approached her and began choking her. Jasmine says that Powell attempted to intervene on her behalf and was attacked by Cousins.
In Cousins’ response, the NBA star claims that he was defending his friend and former teammate Barnes who was “facing irreparable harm”. He goes on to say that any injuries were the result of other people and that he had no control over that. He states that the victims were injured as a result of their own negligence and that if any judgement is awarded to the plaintiffs, then the amount of damages should be reduced by the percentage the plaintiffs caused the situation.
They are suing for damages for the assault, battery and emotional distress. Barnes and Cousins released a statement denying the incident and Barnes has asked that the case be paused pending the results of the criminal investigation into the incident.
