They don’t call him Money Mayweather for nothing. Floyd has maximized dollars his entire boxing career. That career is in it’s final stages, so what’s next? How about NBA owner.
Today, Money Mayweather met with Lakers President Magic Johnson to discuss a potential future in the NBA. TMZ Sports has more details.
Floyd Mayweather wants to be the next Steve Ballmer … or Mark Cuban … or Michael Jordan — as in, he wants to own an NBA franchise. The boxer says he had a meeting in L.A. with Lakers President of Basketball Operations Magic Johnson on Thursday morning — and when he left, he was more inspired than ever to make a play to own an NBA team.
“It’s about time for me to buy an NBA team,” Floyd says … “If you’re ready to sell your NBA team, please get in touch with me.”
If I needed to get any form of business advice and wanted to be an NBA Owner, who better to hit up than Magic? Floyd is well served not only getting advice from Magic but ensuring his support in the event that he’d need league wide support to be approved as an owner.
We’ve seen former athletes join financial groups to purchase sports franchises. The most recent being Derek Jeter and his attempt to purchase the Miami Marlins. A similar arrangement likely would have to be made for Floyd to own an NBA team.
