The news that many of us have been waiting for finally hit the fan and it has spread like wildfire. The Knicks have officially fired Phil Jackson and like everybody else is wondering, what’s next?
The past couple of weeks have been odd. Today, some fans are saying, “Why wasn’t he fired before the Draft?” That’s a terrific point but perhaps the whole key here has been Kristaps Porzingis. It was incredibly rumored and then confirmed by Phil Jackson himself that there was an attempt to trade the only that made sense to keep in New York. Porzingis didn’t attend the exit meetings and perhaps Jackson’s action are what got him in hot water. There’s a lesson to be learned here-petty ways will you get fired so let go of the grudges and learn how to work together.
The Knicks went 80-166 in Jackson’s three years as team president. What’s next? Owner James Dolan needs to hire someone that’s competent leader who will allow coach Jeff Hornacek coach without trying to implant the triangle, which never truly worked.
There’s another report saying that the Knicks are targeting Masai Ujiri, who is currently the president of the Raptors. If they manage to get him, they could build around Porzingis and the latest pick Frank Ntilikina, there could be something special blossoming in the Garden.
