ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Celtics have agreed to trade guard Avery Bradley to the Detroit Pistons for Marcus Morris and a second round pick. This move was done to create the necessary cap space for the Celtics to sign Gordon Hayward to a 4 year $128M max deal. The Celtics were reportedly shopping Marcus Smart and Jae Crowder as well. Does this latest move help with their ultimate goal of unseating LeBron and the Cavaliers?
Tough call for Boston. Bradley is an excellent two way player, all NBA caliber on defense and a 39% shooter from three. We saw it during this year’s finals and the playoffs in general. You need as many two way players on the floor as possible to compete. Bradley is someone the Celtics could throw at Kyrie Irving or a hot J.R. Smith. Marcus Smart is a good defender but not nearly the offensive player Bradley is. The thinking here was that when Bradley became a free agent the Celtics wouldn’t be able to match what he would get in the open market, so they moved him now for Morris and a second rounder.
I guess Morris is another body (a wing/big) to throw at LeBron and with rookie Jayson Tatum, Crowder and newly acquired Gordon Hayward Boston hopes to sure up it’s rebounding. I see the thought process but not sure it does a whole lot to move the needle against the greatest player of this generation.
